When Kids Resist: Turning Struggle Into Growth

Oct 08, 2025

Have you ever opened a math book only to be met with groans, complaints, or outright refusal?

You’re not alone—and it doesn’t mean you’re failing. Resistance is a normal part of homeschooling, and surprisingly, it can become one of your greatest teachers.

This week, I share why resistance shows up (hello, Motivational Triad!), how ownership at different ages helps keep pushback at bay, and how to reframe resistance from “rebellion” into communication.

You’ll also discover practical tools—like connection before correction, offering choice within limits, and breaking tasks into small wins—that can turn a tense moment into an opportunity for growth.

Most importantly, we’ll examine our own reactions as moms. Using the CTFAR model, we’ll see how our resistance to their resistance often escalates the struggle and how shifting our thoughts can bring peace, ownership, and joy back into our homeschool days.

Quality not Conformity
How to Raise Thinkers and Leaders   I used to think the goal was getting school “done.” But the more pressure I felt, the more I realized I was chasing something else: conformity—the need for our homeschool to look like the approved version of “enough.” This week’s episode/blog is about the shift that brought relief and deeper learning: Quality, not Conformity—and how it grows thinkers, lead...
